FAIRBANKS — The Kenai River Brown Bears made a little history Thursday night at the Big Dipper Ice Arena, thanks to a little help from a former Fairbanks Ice Dog.rnrnThe Brown Bears acquired Johan Skinnars from the Ice Dogs in a three-way trade earlier this season and Skinnars made a perfect pass that set up the game-winning goal by Jesse Ramsey, giving Kenai River its first win in Fairbanks since the Brown Bears were founded three years ago.rnrn“This is a really big deal for us because we’ve never won here before,” Ramsey said after the Brown Bears finished celebrating their 3-2 victory that silenced a crowd of 1,750 spectators.

FAIRBANKS — The Fairbanks Ice Dogs used a dramatic comeback on Saturday at the Big Dipper Ice Arena to beat rival Alaska Avalanche for the fifth straight time.rnrnThe Ice Dogs won the North American Hockey League game 5-4 despite spotting the Avalanche three goals in the first seven minutes. Fairbanks still trailed 4-1 entering the third period but rallied to score four unanswered goals to the delight of 2,112 fans.

On Saturday, the Brookings, S.D., native potted a goal and an assist in a 4-2 loss. The next day, the 20-year-old scored another goal and assisted on James Saintey’s game-winner as the Ice Dogs bested the Brown Bears, 5-3. Kirchhevel, who was acquired recently in a trade with St. Louis, was also a plus-4 on the weekend.rn
