The Fairbanks Ice Dogs, proud members of the North American Hockey League, are thrilled to announce that Mason McElroy has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at St. Cloud State University.
A native of Otsego, Minnesota, McElroy has been an integral part of the Ice Dogs organization over the past two seasons. He posted a 32-17-2 record and consistently delivered when called upon between the pipes. McElroy finishes his Ice Dogs career with a 2.61 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage across 56 regular-season appearances.
McElroy had this to say about his recent commitment:
“I’m incredibly grateful and excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at St. Cloud State University. Thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for supporting me every step of the way. I would also like to thank the Ice Dogs organization for giving me the opportunity to wear the sweater for the past two seasons. The experience gave me lifelong friendships and valuable lessons that will stay with me in the future. Once a Dog, always a Dog. I am excited for what’s ahead with Husky Hockey!”
Fairbanks Ice Dogs head coach Dakota Bell shared his thoughts on McElroy’s commitment and thanked him for his contributions to the organization:
“Congratulations to our goaltender, Mason McElroy, on his commitment to St. Cloud State University. Mason has been a tremendous part of our organization, and we are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished during his time with us. In his two years with the Dogs, Mason has endeared himself to teammates and fans through strong work ethic, leadership, and dedication to his craft. Best of all, Mason showed up to the rink every day with a smile on his face and a willingness to do whatever the team needed to succeed. His work with our goalie coach, Adam Carlson, certainly earned him this opportunity, and we could not be prouder. We thank him for his contributions to the Ice Dogs and are excited to see all that he will achieve at the next level.”
