FAIRBANKS ICE DOGS CAPTAIN LUCA RICCIARDI MAKES COLLEGE COMMITMENT

Aug 25, 2026

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the North American Hockey League are proud to announce that 2025-26 team captain Luca Ricciardi will continue his hockey career this fall at Lakehead University in Canadian U Sports. A native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Ricciardi will remain close to home, as Lakehead’s campus is located in the heart of Thunder Bay. Known as the Thunderwolves, Lakehead has long been one of Canada’s top programs, with four major conference championships in its history. The program consistently leads U Sports in hockey attendance, averaging more than 3,000 fans per game, and is recognized as a strong pathway to professional hockey.

Since joining the Ice Dogs during the 2023-24 season, Ricciardi has become a key contributor on the ice and a respected leader in the locker room. In 175 NAHL games, including 133 with Fairbanks, he recorded 51 goals and 66 assists for 117 points. His impact was highlighted by his selection as captain for the 2025-26 season, when he helped guide the team to a second-place finish in the Midwest Division. He also earned a spot at the prestigious NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, representing himself and the Ice Dogs on Team Midwest.

When asked about his recent commitment, Ricciardi had this to say:
“I am extremely grateful for my time in Fairbanks with the Ice Dogs. Fairbanks has been a huge part of my development both on and off the ice, and I’m thankful for all the coaches, teammates, staff, billets, and fans who supported me along the way. Without you guys I would not be where I am today.

I’m excited to announce my commitment to Lakehead University and look forward to continuing my hockey and academic career as a Thunderwolf. I am excited for what’s ahead, but I will always have a special place in my heart for the Ice Dogs and the Fairbanks community. Thank you for everything!”

Dakota Bell, Head Coach of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, shares his thoughts:
“We are incredibly proud of Luca as he takes the next step in his hockey career. The fact that he will have the opportunity to do so close to home in Thunder Bay, Ontario makes this even more special. I have complete confidence that he will thrive in this next chapter as he continues to pursue his dream of playing professional hockey.

During his time with the Ice Dogs, Luca established himself as both a fan favorite and someone our staff will remember for years to come. That reputation was not only earned during his time with our organization but throughout his entire junior hockey career. Since we acquired Luca at the 2024 trade deadline, he has been a tremendous leader both on the ice and in the locker room.

Luca concludes his junior hockey career having laced up his skates in 239 games. This is a testament to his durability, commitment, and consistency. As our captain this past season, he was a driving force behind our success. He provided countless memorable moments, from game-winning goals to highlight-reel assists, while bringing a physical, hard-nosed style of hockey that our fans loved. Night after night, Luca was someone we could rely on, and his approach to the game reflected maturity well beyond his years.

Over his time with the Ice Dogs, Luca recorded more than 100 points and served as a key component of our forward group. Coaching a player like Luca was a privilege, as his leadership and commitment to doing things the right way helped make our job as a staff much easier. We are excited to watch Luca begin this next chapter and look forward to following his continued success. He will always have the support of the Ice Dogs organization, and we wish him nothing but the best as he continues to pursue his dreams.”
