Ice Dogs Sweep Brown Bears

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA- Put another four points on the board for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in the Club 49 Cup presented by Alaska Airlines. The Dogs swept the Kenai River Brown Bears in Soldotna over the weekend, winning 4-3 on Friday night and 6-1 on Saturday. With the pair of wins, the Ice Dogs continue to build points in the Club 49 Cup and remain the only team in the 3-team intra-state challenge to do so. The Anchorage Wolverines are yet to play a Club 49 Cup game this season.

With 23 points on the season, the Ice Dogs are now tied with the Springfield Jr. Blues for the top spot in the NAHL Midwest, but continue to boast the best win percentage in the division. In fact, the Dogs’ .719 win percentage is the fourth best in the NAHL.

Alexander Malinowski continues to lead the Dogs in scoring, notching 20 points off 7 goals and 13 assists this season, good enough to be tied for sixth on the league’s scoring list. Fairbanks product Billy Renfrew leads the Dogs will 11 goals this season, a tally that puts him tied for third in the NAHL in goals. Net minder Kayden Hargraves ranks fourth among league goaltenders with a 2.04 goals against average. His .929 save percentage also ranks fourth in the NAHL.

The Dogs return home for a 3-game series against the Janesville Jets. That series gets underway on Thursday, with an early puck drop at 7 p.m. Both Friday and Saturday’s games begin at the standard 7:30 p.m. The Jets have struggled getting out of the gate this season, tabbing 7 points on the season. Even so, the Dogs’ won’t look passed their opponents from Wisconsin.
