Ice Dogs set for first home game of 2019

Jan 9, 2019

FAIRBANKS- It was a cold welcome home for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs as temperatures hovered around 35 degrees below zero earlier this week.   The Dogs are in town for a nine game home stand, beginning Friday night when they host the Springfield Jr. Blues.

The Dogs went 4-2-2 on a road trip that began in early December, and included a win and overtime loss against the Jr. Blues.  The 5-3 win on Dec. 15 in Springfield marked the Dogs’ first win over the Jr. Blues in four games this season.  Springfield swept the Dogs with a regulation and shootout win at the Dipper in early November.

Fairbanks sits tied with the Janesville Jets with 41 points on the season, four points back of the Midwest Division leading Minnesota Magicians.  The Jr. Blues come into this weekend’s series at the Dip in fourth place, after sweeping the Magicians last weekend.  Springfield forward Nikita Kozyrey earned the Bauer Midwest Division Top Star honor following a 3-point weekend, that included the OT game winner on Saturday night.

Ice Dog forward Jack Johnston and defenseman Noah Wilson earned honorable mention in this week’s top star voting.
