FAIRBANKS, Alaska- The Ice Dogs make their 2021-22 season Big Dipper debut Friday night, when they face-off against the Kenai River Brown Bears in the opener of a 2-game series. The Dogs went 5-2-0-1 on their 8-game road trip to open the season. That is good enough to lead the NAHL Midwest Division with 11 points.

The Dogs split with Janesville over the weekend, falling 3-2 on Friday before posting a 4-3 shootout win on Saturday night.  Alexander Malinowski buried the shootout winner, while newcomer Tyler Krivtsov stopped all 3 shootout attempts he faced. Love Bergval, Tyler Stewart, and Cameron Ricotta also found the back of the net in the win. Stewart’s tally marked his second goal of the weekend, he now leads the Dogs with 8 points off 4 goals and 4 assists on the season. Nolan Cunningham and Owen Neuharth each have 5 assists to lead the Dogs through eight games this season.

Friday’s home opener also marks game one of the Club 49 Cup, sponsored by Alaska Airlines. The 3-team regular season tournament between the Anchorage Wolverines, the Kenai River Brown Bears, and Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Points will be tracked between the three teams throughout the regular season, with the top point earner claiming the inaugural Club 49 Cup. Learn more about the Club 49 Cup.

“We are extremely happy to continue our partnership with Alaska Airlines. Not only with the Club 49 Cup, but also for getting our guys to and from the Lower 48 safely and on time,” said Ice Dogs General Manager Rob Proffitt. “We have a well established rivalry with the Brown Bears, and look forward to establishing another with Anchorage… it should be pretty easy for fan base to buy into it.”
