FAIRBANKS—The Fairbanks Ice Dogs got unexpected and expected elements against the Aston Rebels in Friday night’s opener of a North American Hockey League series in the Big Dipper Ice Arena.
The unexpected was a 5-0 shutout, as goaltender Gavin Nieto denied 30 shots from the Rebels, who relocated to Aston, Pennsylvania, after last season, when they played as the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, of Hildalgo, Texas, and the NAHL’s South Division.
“They had my back the whole game,” Nieto said of his teammates.
